Prepared In Advance
Some days I wake up ready to go, getting out of bed with energy and anticipation. Then there are “other” days. On these “other” days it feels like a herculean effort to drag my sorry carcass out from beneath the covers. The covers are comfy and cozy seeming to protect me from all I want to avoid. Eventually responsibility and reason kick in and kick me out of bed. Yet there is so much more for us!
In the letter that the apostle Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus there is a short section that serves as spiritual motivation to face each day with eagerness and wonder. Ephesians 2:8-10 reads:
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
This snippet of scripture is extraordinary. God tells us:
1) We cannot earn salvation from our sins by what do or don’t do. God doesn’t weigh out our good and bad behavior to make this decision. Rather, God the Father gifts it to us as we trust in the forgiveness given through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
2) God has made us to good things in response to the gift of salvation! And amazingly God has prepared these good things for us to do in ADVANCE.
Every day we know God has already set up good things for us to do. When your feet hit the floor there IS a spiritual adventure waiting for you and for me. Astounding!!! Walk through each day with an expectancy and alertness. Enjoy the journey!
